(Why GTM Still Matters in a Grief Economy)

The world’s on fire.
And yet
 founders are still pitching.

Maybe you’re trying to raise while avoiding the news.
Maybe you’re in stealth, praying no one asks about traction.
Or maybe you’ve already cut your burn and you’re wondering:

“Does any of this still matter?”

Yeah. It does.
Because when the dust settles, what you built will be the only thing that wasn’t noise.

The Grief Economy Playbook

We’re not in a growth market.
We’re in a grief market.

So your GTM strategy has to do more than sell.
It has to prove you see what’s broken and you’re offering something real in response.

Here’s what I’ve seen working in this climate:

  • Trust-first funnels. Not “conversion tricks” – actual relational proof.
  • Clear, brave POVs. The old “category creation” playbook doesn’t work if you can’t say what problem you’re solving.
  • Evidence of traction and integrity. If you only have one, you’re not ready.

This isn’t about perfect messaging. It’s about aligned strategy.
If you’re trying to build something that lasts, your GTM can’t just look good on the outside.
It has to hold.

What VCs Won’t Say (But You Need to Hear)

Some founders are chasing funding with no customers.
Some are chasing customers with no clarity.
And some are just chasing vibes.

Here’s the truth:

You can’t out-raise confusion.
You can’t out-story a broken funnel.
You can’t out-hype what you haven’t built.

If your GTM is full of holes, even the best product won’t save you.
And if your product is fine but your positioning is lazy, you won’t scale.

So What Do You Do Right Now?

If you’re trying to GTM in this grief economy, start here:

  1. Clarify your POV.
What are you actually trying to change? Say it plainly, like someone who respects people’s time.
  2. Audit for funnel friction.
Can a stranger understand what you do in under 7 seconds? If not, fix that.
  3. Trade performative launches for relational ones.
Visibility is not the same as trust.
Don’t just get seen, get believed.
  4. Pick one early signal and strengthen it.
    • A user quote from someone outside your network
    • A warm intro from a name angel
    • A usage stat that proves you’re solving something real

Don’t chase everything. Reinforce something.

You Are Not in Squid Games — But This Is a Test

Founders: I get it.
You’re tired. The world is loud. The market’s cold.

But you didn’t sign up for easy.
You signed up to prove something others couldn’t.

So build loud. Build soft. Build steady.
But for the love of god, build with a plan. Not for investors. Not for press.
For you.
So when the noise fades and the headlines shift
what you built still stands.

Strategy matters.
But trust moves markets.
