Once upon a time, Baby Deer was absolutely not checking her dashboard.

She was just verifying. Casually. Every seven seconds.

Because something impossible had just happened.

Someone had clicked Buy.

Not “book a demo.”
Not “let’s circle back.”
Not “interesting, keep me posted.”

Buy.

With a credit card.
With real money.
With an actual billing address that existed in the world.

Baby Deer stared at the screen.

The little notification sat there like:

👀 hi

Payment received.

She refreshed.

Still there.

She checked Stripe.

Still there.

She checked her email.

Still there.

She checked again (because founders are cautious animals).

Still there.

“…goddammit.”

Because suddenly everything felt different.

The code wasn’t just code.
The pitch deck wasn’t just slides.
The idea wasn’t just an idea.

Someone out there had said “Yes. This matters enough to pay for.”

Baby Deer thought about the late nights.
The bug that only appeared on Tuesdays.
The feature she rewrote three times.
The moment she almost quit.

She remembered the investor who said too early.
The friend who said too risky.
The voice in her head that said too small.

But one person, somewhere, had looked at the same thing and said “This helps me. I’ll pay for it.”

Baby Deer leaned back, looked at the ceiling.
“…holy shit.”

She didn’t celebrate right away.
She opened a new document.

Typed:

  • Email thank-you
  • Ask what almost stopped them from buying
  • Ask what would make this 10× better
  • Fix onboarding

Because founders are like that.

Joy → Immediately back to work.

But later, when the room was quiet and the dashboard still showed $49.00 (or $9.00, or $5000, doesn’t matter), Baby Deer made tea, sat down, and smiled in a way that felt like relief more than happiness.

Because the first paying customer isn’t about money.

It’s proof.
Proof that you’re not shouting into the void.
Proof that someone sees what you’re building.
Proof that maybe, just maybe, this crazy thing could live.

Baby Deer would never say that out loud, of course.

But the next morning, when she saw the customer’s name again in his inbox, she leaned back, looked at the ceiling, and muttered, “…goddammit.”

Still smiling. 🦌✨
